What is the Smart India Hackathon SIH 2024?
Smart India Hackathon SIH 2024 is an initiative by AICTE & MOE’s Innovation Cells designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application. This hackathon provides a platform for students to innovate and solve real-world problems. Participants must be from the same college or school; inter-college/school teams are not allowed. The prize money for both categories (Hardware/Software) is INR 1 Lakh. The last date for registration is 12th September 2024.

Who Can Participate in SIH 2024?
Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) can nominate up to 30 teams (25 teams + 5 waitlisted) based on an internal hackathon conducted by the institute. Shortlisted teams will advance to the National Level Flagship Program for SIH 2024.

- It started in 2017 with a software chapter, and the hardware chapter was introduced in 2018. The hackathon has had four successful editions (SIH 2017, SIH 2018, SIH 2019, SIH 2022, SIH 2023), with SIH 2020 being cancelled due to COVID-19. SIH 2024 is the 7th edition.

- Problem statements can be submitted by central and state government ministries, PSUs, private organizations, and NGOs.

- No, individuals cannot submit problem statements unless they are registered as a proprietor firm. Firms must pay Rs. 25,000 as a registration fee. Government departments and ministries are exempt from this fee.

- No, universities and institutes cannot submit problem statements but can nominate students or act as nodal centers to support the hackathon.

- Yes, as long as they qualify through their HEI’s internal hackathon.

- The College SPOC is responsible for nominating 25 teams and 5 waitlisted teams. The deadline for nominations and idea submissions is 12th September 2024. Each team can submit up to two ideas.
